After Kharlampovich-Myasnikov and Sela proved that nonabelian free groups share the same first-order theory, the model theoretic interest for the subject arose. A historically important question for any natural first-order theory is whether it interprets an infinite field or not. In this talk I will explain some of the principal ideas in proving that no infinite field is interpretable in the first-order theory of nonabelian free groups.
